Ancienne abbaye bénédictine de Payerne, construite selon un schéma clunisien (XIe siècle). De nombreux éléments proviennent toutefois d'une inspiration gothique plus tardive (XVe siècle). De nombreux chapiteaux peints sont encore visibles. L'harmonie fonctionnelle et symbolique des espaces (avant-nef avec chapelle haute dédiée à Saint Michel, nef, transept, chœur et chapelles) est rythmée par le décor sculpté (chapiteaux, bandes lombardes, modillons) et les peintures murales romanes (avant-nef) ou gothiques (chapelles).
